By Dr. Sabine Graumann
“Steep templates for corporate success” was planned and implemented by the information communication working group in 2021 for the ninth year in a row. In 2021, GBI-Genios once again proved to be an indispensable partner and sponsor for the event. Due to Corona, the event took place online for the second time. 140 information professionals took part in the event. Following the event, an online survey was conducted to assess the overall satisfaction of the participants. 44 completed questionnaires were received. This corresponds to a response rate of 32 percent.

95 percent would recommend the “steep templates” to others. 66% of participants saw their expectations as “fully met”.
_____________________________________________________
The overall assessment of the event was based on the question “ Would you recommend the event?” “ caught up. At 95 percent, the proportion of affirmative answers is significantly higher than the previous year (88 percent). There was no participant who “just maybe” recommended the event, compared to twelve percent last year. Five percent of participants (previous year: 0%) would not recommend the event.

66 percent of the participants saw their expectations of the “steep assists” as “fully fulfilled”. In contrast to the previous year, there was not a single participant whose expectations were not met. 31 percent of participants ticked “partly/partly”, which is more than in the previous year (26 percent). This increase is likely to be primarily due to the renewed cancellation of face-to-face events due to the pandemic, as can be concluded from the answers to the open questions.

Handelsblatt editor-in-chief Matthes with the best rating since speakers began to be assessed based on school grades (1.37).
_____________________________________________________
The “Steilvorlagen” event was given an average grade of 1.80 according to the German school grading system. In 2019 the event received an average grade of 1.86 and in 2020 it was rated 1.70. The assessment therefore remains at a very high level, both in terms of questions to be ticked and in terms of school grades.
Without exception, all speakers received a better rating than “good”. Sebastian Matthes received the best rating with an average rating of 1.37. This is the best rating since we introduced the assessment of speakers based on school grades. The talk by Marc Berenbeck (Kearney) was rated 1.70, the talk by Oliver Berchtold (YUKKA Lab) was also rated 1.70 and the remarks by Dr. Martina Merkle (Migros Industrie) with 1.93. The panel discussion, moderated by Tim Brouwer (ARIX Business Intelligence), was rated 2.30. These are also results that are more than impressive.

“Expert interview” format was well received – praise for the professional organization and practical relevance of the lectures _____________________________________________________
A third of the open responses to the question “ What did you particularly like about this event?” “ referred to the keynote interview with the editor-in-chief of the Handelsblatt. The particularly good rating may also have been due to the interactive format of the interview, which was well received on screens at home. Among other things, it said: “ I thought the keynote, which was designed as an interview, was great. » » Mr. Matthes ‘ thoughts and suggestions were presented very professionally, far-sightedly and cleverly – finally the future of InfoPro was discussed again. » : “High level of speakers and expertise of all speakers. “ “ Super well-presented speakers. “
Organization highly professional. Another third of the open responses referred to the very good organization of the event: “ The absolutely professional presentation including the opportunity to ask questions and the polls. The break-out sessions are also great. Keep it up!” Many participants also commented on the “ great technical implementation again ”, “ the studio atmosphere, not just tiles with heads ” and “ the packed lunch as the icing on the cake. Great thank you ! »
Focus on practical relevance. In the last third of the open entries, the participants expressed how important practical relevance was to them is: “ I received a lot of inspiration for my work. “ “ It’s great that the topic was looked at from different points of view. “ “ The practical relevance of the topics.” “ Looking outside the box. “ “The balance of the contributions.” “Interesting impulses. “
_____________________________________________________
88 percent of participants wanted to receive “good practical examples”. 79% expected suggestions for their own work. _____________________________________________________
With the question “ What did you expect from your visit to this event?” We reviewed the basic concept of the “Steilvorlagen” event. The participants were primarily interested in receiving “good examples from practice” (88 percent). If 14 percent chose “other”, their comments were mainly based on the desire to “get to know good examples from practice”. In previous years, very similar priorities were set for “Getting to know good examples from practice”.
79 percent expected to receive “stimulation for their own work”. This is significantly less than in previous years, but still indicates a high level of prioritization.
14 percent of those surveyed said they wanted to exchange their own experiences with colleagues. This was an almost similarly low proportion as in 2020, when eight percent of virtual participants wanted to exchange ideas with colleagues. These results indicate that participation opportunities in a chat cannot fully replace direct personal contact. If “Steilvorlagen 2022” returns to the format of face-to-face events, the desire to “exchange one’s own experiences with colleagues” is likely to return to the level of previous years according to the number of votes, as this desire could then be realized (2019: 34% ).

Maximum values for clear content structure and time management.
Transferring new findings into the participants’ practice remains a challenge.
_____________________________________________________
When asked “ How do you rate the content of the event?”, 91 percent of those surveyed fully agreed that the event was clearly structured in terms of content (last year: 94 percent). The assessment “The amount of time was appropriate for the topic” resulted in a rate of complete agreement of 81 percent (previous year: 78 percent). The further question “During the event I had sufficient opportunity to discuss” was answered by 65 percent of participants with an unqualified “yes” (previous year: 80 percent). 26 percent partially agreed with this (previous year 12 percent). The decline in full agreement is likely due to the shortened time of the panel discussion in favor of the break-out sessions, so that questions from the chat could no longer be asked to the panel.
When asked about the “practical feasibility” of the knowledge gained in one’s own work, the approval rates fell significantly compared to the other questions. It was very similar in previous years. This time, 23 percent of participants agreed with the statement “I can put the findings into practice,” whereas last year it was only 12 percent. At least 63 percent partially agreed with this statement.
The development of practical options for implementing general findings into the practice of the participants remains an important task for the information transfer working group, even if this remains a particular challenge due to the heterogeneity of the industry and the even greater heterogeneity at the workplace level.

Everything is fine when it comes to through passes: Claudia Olewinski (GBI-Genios)
_____________________________________________________
A good half were fully informed about “new trends/challenges”. Break-out sessions arrived.
_____________________________________________________
Participants were also asked how they liked various aspects of the event .
Value for money reasonable. 89 percent of participants find the price-performance ratio “appropriate”. Only seven percent rate it as “partially appropriate”. The 89 percent represents an improvement of 17 percentage points compared to the previous year. The high approval rate is due to the fact that GBI Genios customers were able to take part in the event free of charge.
Detecting new trends remains a challenge . Were participants “well informed about new trends/challenges”? 51 percent of participants completely agreed with this question. 49 percent were at least partially of this view. However, full approval was higher for the “2020 Steep Templates” at 64 percent. Being on the front lines of new technical developments and communicating them to the participants, taking into account the industry specifics, remains a sporting challenge for the information transfer working group.
Organization rated as professional for open and closed questions. 89 percent agreed with the statement “The organization is professional,” and all other participants said this at least partially. This results in a similar picture in the distribution of answers to the closed question as in the answers to the open question (see the quotes on page 2).
Break-out sessions have arrived . In 2021, the sponsors’ break-out sessions were introduced as a new format. 60 percent of participants agreed with the statement: “The break-out sessions were informative.” Another 30 percent of participants were at least partially of this opinion. Requests for improvement in this regard were expressed: “The breakout sessions should be offered AFTER a lunch break and a maximum of two topics should be dealt with in parallel.” – “It may be possible to repeat the breakout sessions so that the participants (after a short break) can still can visit a second topic? Unfortunately I had to choose one and am mourning another… ;-).”

Return to face-to-face events as soon as possible – more debate contributions from the plenary session or the chat! _____________________________________________________
Participants were also asked to comment in an open question: “ What could be improved about this event ?”
This year there were only 16 requests to speak (previous year: 44). In a third of the answers, no suggestions were made because: “ Everything was wonderful.” “There is always something to improve, but I can’t think of anything at the moment.”
The desire to return to face-to-face events was clearly articulated: “ If healthy people are considered socially acceptable again, definitely hold the face-to-face event again !”
It was suggested that more time be set aside for the panel discussion in order to allow questions from the plenary session and from there to be able to make contributions to a debate that could also be contentious.
In addition, “speakers from the industry can also be invited. “
Several voices suggested an expansion of the “steep templates”: “ After six months, another event for InfoPros, but then in a different format. “ “ Provide concrete research tips for three or four selected questions previously collected from the participants.”
One respondent was critical: “ Degree was missing. Sometimes it wasn’t so quickly clear to me which room where. Unfortunately, networking didn’t work for me at all (for technical reasons?), but it wasn’t my focus either.”
_____________________________________________________
Looking at “Step templates 2022”: Further best practice examples – Dealing with information sources – Questions about “artificial intelligence” remain current _____________________________________________________
Finally, an open question was asked to the participants: “ What other topics would you like to attend future events about ?”
Best practice in focus . 38 percent of the open requests to speak referred to “best practice” examples in certain areas, for example: “ Once again the tension between information and decision-making.” “Detailed insights into the work of information brokers.” “Presentation of results for customers.” “Best practice, also internationally.” And very specifically : “Use cases with the new Genios platform.”
Dealing with information sources . 32 percent of the statements related to the handling of information sources: “ Perhaps you should deepen the roles of the various information sources, especially including social media.” “Possibilities for cross-database dashboards.” “Importance of open access for information professionals .” “Detecting fake news.”
Questions about “artificial intelligence” remain current. 19 percent would like to (re)engage with the effects of artificial intelligence on their activities »: » Big Data. » « Influence of AI on the tasks and self-image of the information broker. » « Artificial Intelligence in HealthCare. »
There was also a statement on “Data Security” and another on “Information Professionals and EU Politics”: “What can Info-Pros contribute to the EU’s Green Deal? Research techniques, data mining, economic ownership relationships.”

Thanks!_____________________________________________________
GBI-Genios and the Information Transfer Working Group would like to thank you for the feedback and are pleased that the participants liked “Steilvorlagen” again. The organizing team would especially like to thank the speakers for their great commitment. The Information Communication Working Group would like to thank everyone who worked behind the scenes to ensure a successful event, especially Claudia Olewinski and Ralf Hennemann from GBI-Genios.
In the new year, Open Password will continue its reporting on the “steep templates” through journalistic contributions to the individual lectures and the panel discussion. Look forward to it! And stay healthy!
ZBW strategy
Classify, research and design digitalization
Four strategic priorities are at the center of the “Strategy 2022 – 2026” of the ZBW – Leibniz Information Center for Economics ( www.zbw.eu ): (1) classify digitalization, (2) research digitalization, (3) shape digitalization and (4) to Enable digitalization. The vision: Modern information provision in economics. The priorities in detail :
(1) Classify digitalization . It is of utmost importance for the ZBW to best classify digitalization in economics and the associated changes in scientific processes, methods and tools in order to fulfill its mission. This knowledge forms the basis for the orientation of essential ZBW fields of action in a world of hybrid work cultures. The “Strategy 2022 – 2026” defines fields of action in order to achieve this deep understanding in the long term.
(2) Explore digitalization . Digitalization is spurring a transformation of the science system towards more openness: Open Science. In order to proactively shape this transformation, the ZBW conducts multi-perspective research in the field of open science with five professorships. The aim of application-oriented research is to increase the level of innovation of existing ZBW services and to develop new services. The “Strategy 2022 – 2026” explains how multidisciplinary research and, above all, research transfer into service development are organized in such a way that excellent research results are generated and innovative services are (further) developed.
(3) Shaping digitalization . The ZBW not only classifies digital change and its effects on economics and aligns its services accordingly. The ZBW is proactively shaping digital change and is particularly committed to the open access transformation of the economics publication market. It promotes open and free access to economic publications, research data, open educational resources (OER) and research software. To this end, the ZBW is setting up services through which it positions itself as a mediator and curator of publication processes. In addition, the ZBW shares its experiences and research-based findings with its communities and actively incorporates them into national, European and international science policy. The necessary fields of action are choreographed in the “Strategy 2022 – 2026”.
(4) Enable digitalization . User-oriented thinking and action, an understanding of digital technologies and tools as well as agile management skills are the basic requirements for a service-oriented information infrastructure like the ZBW. The ZBW therefore attaches great importance to continuous personnel and organizational development. Individual lifelong learning therefore plays just as important a role as organizational development. The “Strategy 2022 – 2026” sets out how the ZBW will organize its further education and training, its digital work environments and its human resources management in the coming years and will also share its own knowledge with interested parties. The ZBW is particularly concerned about passing on knowledge and experiences relating to the digitalization of science. It therefore actively supports its target groups in the further development of their digital skills.

In addition, an additional correspondent position will be created for reporting from the USA and proofreading will be strengthened.
This personnel offensive is being driven forward by the previous successes of the FAZ’s digital offerings. The number of digital subscriptions is around 200,000 at the end of 2021, around 80,000 readers use the FAZ.NET complete subscription F+, and the daily FAZ podcast for Germany has 1.2 Million downloads monthly. In recent years, the FAZ has continuously expanded its digital offering, expanded the news portal FAZ.NET, and developed new apps and functions such as text-to-speech solutions, multi-user applications and personalized displays.
In January 2021, the FAZ focused product development and sales more closely on the requirements of digital business with the new “Product + Sales” publishing department. As part of the reorganization, new positions were created there and interfaces to the editorial team were strengthened.
